چکیده

Hypersonic high-enthalpy wind tunnels have been a challenge to ground tests in aerospace research area for decades and its test flow uniformity is one of the most important parameters evaluating tunnel performances. Regarding performance requirement, theories methods designing hypersonic nozzles at high enthalpy conditions are quite difficult, but very interesting topics, especially when air molecule dissociations take place gas reservoirs. In this paper, fundamental nozzle designs briefly reviewed with emphasis on two-dimensional axisymmetric tunnels, including Method Characteristics (MOC), graphic design method, Sivells theory boundary correction, CFD-based optimization methods. These had proposed based several physical issues, respectively, which play roles expansion processes. issues cover wave generation reflection, layer development, real effect flows. Difficulties arising from applications these discussed detail state art technologies that reached summarized some brief comments. Finally, prospect methods, numerical experimental verifications provided authors’ viewpoint readers’ reference.

High-order shock-fitting methods for hypersonic flow with chemical and thermal nonequilibrium

Computer simulations have been an effective tool to study transient flow processes in hypersonic flow and have been complementing experimental and theoretical studies to better understand the flow transition process. There have been lots of efforts in code development for high order simulation of nonequilibrium flow but most of the methods are based on shock capturing ideodology. Shock capturin...

Development of a Pulsed Arc Heater for a Hypersonic High Enthalpy Wind Tunnel

A pulsed arc heater was designed and manufactured at Centrospazio to equip a new hypersonic high-enthalpy blow-down wind tunnel capable of producing flows with a specific total enthalpy up to 2.5 MJ/kg. The heater mainly consists of two coaxial electrodes, separated by a constrictor, and a plenum chamber. The flow is heated by an electric arc ignited between the electrodes and sustained by the ...

Hypersonic Flow

A method for computing inviscid hypersonic ow over complex conngurations using unstructured meshes is presented. The unstructured grid solver uses an edge{based nite{volume formulation. Fluxes are computed using a ux vector splitting scheme that is capable of representing constant enthalpy solutions. Second{order accuracy in smooth ow regions is obtained by linearly reconstructing the solution,...
